Aurora Borealis 10.7.05
Ok, so I've been to Alaska and didn't even get to see this. But on Friday evening driving back from Sarah and Mark's wedding in Sioux Falls, after getting pulled over the first time for having a headlight out I got to see the Northern Lights. It was so cool!
Kaylla and I are driving along talking and I'm just sitting here looking at this smudge on my windshield thinking gosh I need to clean this thing bad! Then it dawns on me, it's not a smudge. So once I figured out what it was I was mezmorized. Kaylla kept laughing at me. So we pulled over and I took two images. Propping the camera on the roof of my car with my purse underneath the lens I set the shutter to about 15 seconds and let her go. The end result, my first documentation of the Northern Lights. Too cool!

Too cool. I wonder how often they're visible down there? This is one of my favorite things about Fairbank. On almost any clear night we get to watch the lights. In fact, I just moved my office so that I can look out at the lights over the top of my monitor!

Heath,
More often than you think at this time of the year. It is usually very late at night though and I haven't been able to tear myself away from the computer or out of bed. Plus there are just too many lights in the city I live it so we have to drive to see them. They aren't bright enough otherwise.
So not fair that you get to look out and see them all the time. I'm jealous!
