Where were you? – SD Photographer

I was in the HPER building in Greencastle, Indiana at DePauw University working on the computer. I thought it was all fake or something and didn’t really stop everything, but I remember it all still. They had it on a tv in the main office.

Andy was in South Dakota downtown getting a coffee and heard it on Bob and Tom.

There are only a couple of events that didn’t directly happen to me that I can tell you exactly where I was. This is one of them.
Where were you?

Carrie Kuhl - I was a senior in High School and began my day just like any other structured educational school day and remember the bell ringing for 2nd pd… i had study hall and i usually went to the library. As i was walking in the room a large group of my fellow study hall compadres were congregating around the tv. It was obvious to me that something was going on and by the expressions on the faces of my peers i could tell it was horrific.

I can honestly say that for me the impact of that day, though i knew it was terrible, didn’t really set in for me until a couple of years after and it still brings tears to my eyes.

Jessica Rehder - We were in the cities, I just got back from the pet store and Andy was at the 3M plant in St. Paul. I was watching the news and watched the second plane hit the building. A message came across the bottom of the screen that the Mall of America could be a target. I paged Andy at work and called my cousin who is a cop in St. Paul. She told us to get the Heck out of town-I agreed! I was never more thankful to live in Brookings SD where noone knew our name!!

Krista Marie - I was getting ready for school and watching Good Morning America (as I did every morning). I remember they were reporting about the first plane. The anchors thought it was a freak accident. As they were showing live footage of the smoking coming out of the first one, the second one hit. I remember Charles Gibson being completely in shock. He was like “What is that? That can’t be another plane?” Soon, there after I ran upstairs and told my mom. I know someday I’ll probably have to tell my kids where I was when it happenned just like my dad told me where he was during the Challenger Explosion.

Anonymous - I was dropping my niece off at the babysitters house. I remember walking in and seeing it on TV…what a shock. I then went to work and they had put TV’s in the breakrooms so we could watch if we wanted to. Seems like just yesterday.

Heather - I was at work, and my office window looked out towards the airport. I can remember all of us crowded in there watching the line of planes as they were told to land. It was an unbelievable sight.

Anonymous - Matt turned 21 the day before and had been out celebrating most of the night, so I was taking care of him that morning. It was so weird because his roommate was in the shower with PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN blaring on the CD player and stomping his feet (yes, Josh is a bit weird); when he came out, we turned on the TV and saw what had happened. Brenda - We were in Disneyworld, getting ready to go to the parks for the day…. we never made it to the parks that day. The TV was on, we were watching Good Morning America. I can’t even describe what we were feeling/thinking. I remember the somber mood in the airports and planes when we were coming back home from Florida a couple of days later. I can’t believe it’s already been 7 years.

09.12.2008 - 7:33 am

Anonymous - I was a sophomore in college in Mankato MN getting ready to head to class….I was eating my breakfast and watching the morning news. The anchor lady thought it had to have been a joke being played on her. I can’t believe it’s been 7 years since that has happened.

09.12.2008 - 6:34 am

Kat- - I was at home in my kitchen and watching the morning news. I called my friend from across the street and we were in aw of it all. I then called my husband who was at a job site.

09.11.2008 - 10:41 pm

Anonymous - I was at home and had just gotten off the phone with my brother, a Marine. I hadn’t spoken to him in quite awhile and told him “I love you,” something always known but not often said. I said it not knowing what was taking place in New York and D.C. The rest, unfortunately, is history. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER…
