You all may know E from her fabulous modeling with AC Ellis Intimates. I think she’s retiring as she is moving out of town. I was happy to do some images for her graduation announcement. E graduated from SDSU last week with a degree in Early Childhood Education.

You don’t see many graduates on the blog because I don’t photograph very many. Just 10 per year. The limit is low to keep the goals high of each graduates personality coming out in their images. No two sessions should be alike. We had fun with Jamie’s session, although I did get eaten by mosquitos like crazy. Here are some of my favorite images. And I did have to play a little with textures and finishes, because I can.

I strive to create many different images, but this one is a must. A classic black and white that will stand the test of time. I love her smile and the sparkle in her eye.

And something different for activity/hobby images. These were fun to create with the help of my wonderful assistants Carrie and Sarah who held the lights for me.

A bit of moody sky and sweet lighting make for an image like this.

Some relaxed portraits. Amanda’s family has a cabin on the lake and we traveled there for the water image. I think it’s important to have your images in places that are important to you.

So much about this young ladies high school days is about her involvement in sports. So we were sure to incorporate that into her images.

Amanda’s dad got us this wonderful prop for this image. It had to be hauled outside by a semi. Now that is something none of her friends will have in their images.

Taylor – Sioux Falls Photographer

Monday I headed down to Sioux Falls for a Photog get together. We had three models to practice senior shooting on. I didn’t shoot much, but while the others were working with one of the other models, Taylor was trying to keep warm in the perfect light and I took these of her. I also got one inside before she headed out at one point.

It’s not often that I can’t decided between color or b&w, but this was one of those times… What do you prefer?

Senior Season is upon us. Inquiries are coming in, grads and their parents are deciding what to do for pics. Well here is Kaylla from last years Graduates. Which actually means she graduates next month. Kaylla will be coming to SDSU next fall and will be working here in the office. I hope to keep her all four years! Some of you may remember her from when she assisted at weddings a few years ago. And she occasionally ends up on the blog when I shoot her b-ball games.

Some smiling images are always good. Fun and relaxed.

Kaylla – Sioux Falls Photographer

Yes I’m still alive. I’ve been spending the week doing some stuff. Yep stuff. Anyway. I know some of you are missing me and my posts. This is Kaylla, you may remember her, she used to assist for me. Well guess what she’s a senior this year. I cannot believe it! She has grown into a beautiful young woman and yesterday I got to spend some time photographing her senior portraits (which kick arse by the way).

Here she is, this is straight out of the camera. Lovely light and lovely young woman.

Ashlee came all the way from MN to have me photographer her graduation portraits. So I spoiled her by taking her to this place I’ve been dying to shoot in and just needed the right subject. I do enjoy going to completly different locations with my subjects and work very hard to create images that are disctinct from each other with in the collection as well other other subjects and photographers. Here is some of the variety we found for Ashlee.

You know textures and overlays are all the rave right now and while I think they are cool. I do think they need to be done properly to create a feel in an image, rather than take it over. The image should still highlight the subject. And you don’t need much texture in a location like this. It’s full of it’s own

It’s funny, but I think I’m starting to get more out of state clients than locals. My thinking is that word has spread and since I don’t do a lot of local adverstising they are finding me through past clients. This lovely graduating senior Emily came all the way from Omaha for her session. She found me as I have recently done two family weddings of her cousins. I remember the first one she wouldn’t put her camera down and she kept watching me, she was wondering why I was using my flash the way I was.

I was excited to do her session. My gosh she photographs beautifully! The overcast sky and sprinkles might deter some, but it worked wonderfully for us. We had a wide variety of feels to her images – that’s what it’s about around her creativity and variety. Here are some images from her session.
